Wedding Candy Buffet

Just beginning another candy buffet and I posted the following photos from  a wedding from last year. The couple wanted a candy buffet but the reception hall would not allow it. So in order to satisfy everyone we designed and printed fake candy labels with fun wedding facts on each box. We had over 100 people and made enough for 300 people and still ran out of candy.

Using baby pictures we created milk chocolate wrappers with photos of the couple as children.

 Then made reproductions of famous candy wrappers and changed the nutritional information to info on the couple.

 Home made sea glass to match the wedding colors finished everything off.

20 Year Collaboration.

Twenty years ago Andy started work on building two end tables for his home. Unfortunately he could not complete the build on these tables because Parkinson's Disease got involved. Andy kept these end tables in storage since then where they sat in pieces waiting to be completed. Several months ago Andy asked me if I could finish them for him. I had never done a collaboration with anyone my life. From my illustration work and woodworking, I have always done work on my own.

Completing these tables were like finishing someone else's math problems. I knew I would get the same answer but I did not know how Andy got to where he was because he did not show his work. But they were completed and Andy asked me to add a drawer on each one. They are made of cherry and tiger maple with many hand coats of finish. The time spent working on them is something I will treasure.

Yesterday after Arlene and I dropped them off at Andy and Josa's, Andy gave me a large unfinished tiger maple plank from the original piece for the table top. I have no idea what I want to use it for...yet.

But I think some kind of collaboration is needed. Pieces like this should not be done...alone.

Hand Made Cherry Sea Chest

Just finished for a client on Martha's Vineyard is this custom made reproduction of a sea chest in solid cherry. The inside is lined with aromatic cedar to keep your fabrics and blankets safe from moths. The rope beckets are made by artisan Tim Whitten. Each piece is given a hand rubbed finish to give it a luster that last for years. The top and face are given a nautical detail and compass painted in enamels. Politicians and religious leaders are not doctors.

Moments that help define a nation come from small acts that ignite change.

When Rosa Parks walked onto a bus one morning, I am sure she had no idea to what end her act of defiance would reach and how it would force change. When Sandra Fluke spoke to Congress I am sure she did so, not with the intention of sparking change but just to speak up for women's health concerns.

Rush Limbaugh's comments were disgusting and vile and beyond reason. His apology even worse. His statement that woman should do a porn video so he and his friends could get "off" was arrogance. His personal attack on Ms. Fluke lasted over three days in order to send a direct message to all woman. "Speak up and this is how I will shut you down".

In the next few days, I am sure people will come to Rush's defense as they have done in the past. Mitt Romney has already accepted his apology and many will want to move on to other issues. But this issue is so important because it has been growing for over twenty years. Politicians and pundits like Rush are not doctors nor are they religious leaders. Politicians are supposed to stand up against the Limbaughs, thugs and bullies of the world not cower to them.

This action against a woman who spoke up for health care must ignite the same passions that Rosa Park's actions of wanting to ride in the front of a bus did. Young woman in this country need to speak up. For young woman like my daughters, this is your defining moment to ensure that you have a voice and that your opinion matters.

That is why you must speak up.

How Rush Limbaugh sees woman.

People should not be shocked that Rush Limbaugh thinks woman who use birth control are "sluts".

This is how Rush sees all woman.

I mean this attack comes from a man married four times. This is not a "liberal agenda" reacting to this nonsense but a human one. More people like Ms. Fluke need to stand up to the Rush Limbaugh's of the world and the people who speak of religious freedom should have been the very first people to do so.
